Jhumur Datta Gupta is an Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, currently pursuing her PhD from St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata. With over 14 years of experience in Audio Visual Journalism across leading channels like Etv, Kolkata TV, News Time, and News 18, she has also served as Deputy Chief Copy Editor at News 18. Transitioning to media education in 2018, Jhumur is dedicated to shaping the next generation of media professionals and is actively involved in academic administration as a core member of the Examination Conduct Committee. Her academic interests span Audio Visual Journalism, Film-Script Writing, and Cultural Studies, reflecting her passion for media and societal dynamics.

Jhumur Datta Gupta, currently serving as Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, brings a wealth of expertise and experience to her role. Pursuing her PhD from St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, she has dedicated herself to both academic pursuit and professional practice in the field of media and communication.

Jhumur's academic journey is marked by her academic achievements, having earned a first-class fourth position in Masters from Rabindra Bharati University in Mass Communication and Videography. She holds a Political Science degree from Bethune College, Kolkata, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to understanding societal dynamics and media landscapes.

With over 14 years of robust experience in Audio Visual Journalism, Jhumur has made significant contributions across various prominent channels including Etv, Kolkata TV, News Time, and News 18. Her tenure as Deputy Chief Copy Editor at News 18 for 4 years underscored her editorial acumen and leadership in newsroom operations.

In 2018, Jhumur transitioned her focus to media education, leveraging her extensive industry insights to nurture the next generation of media professionals. She has served as Visiting Faculty at Roopkala Kendra, imparting knowledge and practical skills in Audio Visual Journalism to aspiring journalists.

Beyond teaching, Jhumur is actively involved in enhancing the academic framework of her department. She plays a pivotal role as a core member of the Examination Conduct Committee and has previously served as the Examination Coordinator, ensuring smooth and efficient assessment processes.

Jhumur's academic domain spans Audio Visual Journalism, Film-Script Writing, and Cultural Studies, reflecting her passion for exploring the intersection of media, culture, and society. She is also deeply engaged in professional associations, contributing as a training program organizing member and a member of the Magazine team at the Indian Science News Associations.
